Adjustments to building startup and shutdown times reduced electric expenses up to 20% compared to similar weather days

Using the MACH Expected Operating Envelope™, the building team identified that past operational settings had the building HVAC powering up too early during mild weather conditions. An optimization exercise was done to continuously adjust the start time in 30 minute increments until the building started as late as possible. By carefully monitoring the results - comparing both energy (kWh) and dollar costs - each day against similar weather days, the building was able to optimize operations and measure the economic impact of the changes while still ensuring tenant comfort.

The analytic tools in the MACH Asset•Manager™ enabled the engineering and property management to show to building ownership that the daily savings were going to range from 15-20% of the previous daily electric expense.
